Are our politicians up to their old tricks (again)? On the verge of the 2024 London Mayoral elections, longstanding questions over voter fraud have again been thrust firmly back into the spotlight, with research suggesting that two-fifths of Britons have election rigging concerns. Here in our nation’s capital, citizens have recent experience of voter fraud and its far reaching impacts, with a mayor in East London being kicked out of office in a scandal over postal votes in Tower Hamlets. Even the Electoral Commission, which regulates our elections, has admitted that police data "may not be a complete record of all activity which could involve electoral fraud offences". It’s little wonder that 58% of Londoners didn’t vote in the last Mayoral election. Because the truth is this: if almost half of voters don’t believe the process is democratic, then it is flawed.
