Ron Kornegay used his time at the podium to tell a short story about his experience playing against Bob Verga (the winningest and highest scoring player ever at the JSBL). The story drew a laugh from the crowd, but in typical selfless Ron Kornegay fashion he chose to take the limelight off himself and undersell his own career. The truth is that Ron Kornegay was also an absolute superstar on the court at Jerry Lynch’s. A 2,526 point scorer at Monmouth, Kornegay starred on the earliest Larson Ford teams leading them to 2 championships in an era loaded with NBA and ABA talent. Jake Jones would say later that night at the ceremony that as someone who guarded Nate “Tiny” Archibald and other NBA legends, Ron Kornegay was just as quick as those guys.
