Bob Mahala is one of only 2 players in the outdoor era to average 40+ points per game over the duration of a JSBL season (the other guy to do it happens to share the same first name). Playing outdoors had its challenges. You had the wind and the summer heat to deal with. Couple that with the fact that the 1980’s had the most NBA players of any decade at the JSBL and what Mahala did was extremely impressive. Perhaps even more impressive, he did it after working as a firefighter in NYC all day and then beating the traffic down to the Jersey Shore. Thank you Bob for attending the “55” championship game and ceremony. Much like the mistaken plaque with your father’s picture (another Wagner basketball legend!), your place in the JSBL scoring record books is permanent! #JSBL #JSBLHoops
