Fisheries staff have begun several projects on trout this season! This particular project centers on determining ODWC’s ability to supplement year-round fisheries with trout from our state hatcheries. Our objectives are to determine if Oklahoma hatcheries have the ability to produce trout over the winter period, and if fish produced from our hatcheries can grow and survive year-round in our rivers and lakes. To accurately identify these fish over the coming years we’ve decided to mark fish produced by our hatcheries by removing their adipose fin (a common method used to identify hatchery reared salmonids). Data from these fish will then be collected to determine the feasibility of this approach to help maintain our state’s unique trout fishing opportunities. -Good luck out there little fishies! #fishinok #OutdoorOklahoma #fishinglife
