That’s not a branch falling aggressively from a tree, it’s a flying squirrel!! Emily and I sat on the deck last night and something fell from the sky. The first thought is that it was a branch because it was too big to be anything else. Then we heard impact on a tree and scurrying….was it a bat? I ran inside and grabbed a flashlight and Emily shined the light where the creature was. Low a behold a FLYING SQUIRREL. Now I have never in my life seen one in person so I sprinted back inside to grab my camera and came back out. It had shifted to the other side of the tree at this point. I snapped a few photos before we let it be on its merry way. We tried to determine whether it is a Souther Flying Squirrel or a Northern Flying Squirrel. The blurry that I saw in the night made it look grey on its underbelly but it was also complete darkness. The photos make me think it was white on its underside.
