Last Friday, I attended the Myrtle Beach Film Festival and Freedom of Speech Symposium to join illustrious company such as previous London Real guest Mike Benz; and where our latest film, We Will Not Be Silenced, won the award for Best Documentary. The film itself focuses on digital censorship and the issues caused by having Silicon Valley technocrats making unilateral decisions about editorial policy… and is scheduled to premiere later this month! Tackling censorship is one of my key manifesto pledges as part of my campaign to be the next Mayor of London. I recognise that without free speech, all of our other fundamental human rights are compromised. And with 42% of Londoners reporting that they feel their free speech has been adversely impacted in the last three years, it’s a concern that’s shared by a large number of people.
