As we close out #WomensHistoryMonth, we highlight artist Lee Krasner. Born in Brooklyn, Krasner was passionate about creating art from a young age and was active in the New York arts scene throughout her life. She was a pioneering abstract artist, having studied with Hans Hofmann in the 1930s, and a leading figure in the #AbstractExpressionist movement, closely associated with artists such as William de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, who became her husband. Krasner once stated “If the canvas soars into space or if it is earthbound. When it is earthbound it irritates me enormously. I would like to soar in a canvas.” This work, 'Pink Stone,' features flowing lines, splashes and spills that seem to fly across the paper, these prints translate the organic grace of her paintings to the medium of a print. _ #LeeKrasner, Primary Series: Pink Stone, 1969.
