About 200 community members gathered on Upper Sproul Plaza to attend a noon rally on Wednesday organized by Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine, or FSJP, as part of national May Day demonstrations. The rally was hosted by UC Berkeley’s Free Palestine Encampment, which is now in its second week of its existence and has grown to more than 150 tents. Wednesday’s actions come after a rise in tensions at other UC campuses, and there are now seven encampments across the University of California. On Tuesday night, the UCLA encampment was attacked by counter-protesters who launched fireworks at students, among other aggressions.
