In honor of Black History Month, and in celebration of Black excellence, we’re taking a look back at some of the Black American champions who stood atop the podium as they represented Team USA at the IAAF World Indoor Championships - Portland2016.

After securing the world title and setting the indoor American record in the long jump at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, Brittney Reese came into Portland2016 with one aim: to defend that indoor gold medal. Sitting in second place going into the last round of the competition, Reese had one final attempt to fulfill her goal. Letting out her signature roar as she leapt through the air, she landed 7.22 meters down the runway to clinch the world title on home soil.

Reese is one of the winningest long jumpers in history, with a staggering 10 global medals to her name, including Olympic gold.
