After finishing underground infrastructure work last week, St. Pete's first Whole Foods Market got the greenlight from the city to officially begin vertical construction. Developers say they expect to complete the building's shell by early spring, at which point they will turn the building over to Whole Foods for interior buildout, with an expected opening date sometime in 2023. The popular organic marketplace, owned by Amazon, will be located at 203 38th Avenue North next to two Publixes on a busy stretch of 4th Street North. Founded in Austin, Texas in 1980, Whole Foods describes itself as “the world’s leader in natural and organic foods,” with more than 500 stores open worldwide.
