Happy #WorldAstronautDay! Since the first American human space flight on May 5, 1961, astronauts have been crafting our future in the cosmos. The Artemis II mission will be the second voyage into space for astronaut Christina Koch, seen in the first image in Building 9 at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Koch previously set a record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, with a total of 328 days in space, and participated in the first all-female spacewalks. Astronaut Victor Glover, seen in the second image, will be piloting the four-person voyage. The California native has logged more than 3,000 flight hours and nearly six months on the International Space Station. “You hear people refer to ‘moon shots’ anytime humans do something great,” he says. “It’s going to be amazing for our generation to have its own actual moon shot.” Photos by danwintersphoto
