As cold days and snowpack continue to shrink due to climate change, we know that reducing greenhouse gas emissions can help keep the joy of winter sports alive. So, when we learned about an old coal power plant that was naturally emitting billions of cubic feet of methane annually, we decided to act.
By capturing this methane and spinning it through turbines, we discovered that we can generate electricity AND destroy an extremely potent greenhouse gas (methane is 81 times more potent than carbon dioxide when it comes to trapping heat in the atmosphere!). We began working with our partners and local utility to construct a one-of-a-kind methane-to-electricity plant. Since 2012 we’ve been capturing methane, converting it to electricity, and delivering the power back to the grid to green the entire system, combatting climate change one turbine spin at a time.
