I look out at the expanse of the Great Wall, and it seems I might never reach its end. For three-thousand years, numerous Chinese dynasties have created what is now one of the largest man-made structures ever developed. The most recognizable section was built by the Ming Dynasty beginning in 1368 AD, stretching 6,354 km (3,948 miles) across the countryside. Its crests along the rolling hills and mountains of rural China were built to ward off attacks from nomads to the north. All who dared cross the formidable structure put their loot, and their lives, at serious risk.
If used in Civ 5, the Great Wall makes it nearly impossible for opponents to cross into your territory in the early game. This unforgiving obstacle forces invading units to spend an additional movement point each time they advance within your borders. Next time you plan to go on the defensive, consider surrounding yourself with the sturdy and remarkable Great Wall.
