Today, we remember Frank Stella. 🖤🤍 The second artist of the #BMWArtCar series, Frank Stella inspired generations of artists including Julie Mehretu, BMW’s newest addition to the #ArtCar fleet. In 1976, Frank was asked to create BMW #ArtCar2 after the huge success of the first rolling sculpture by Alexander Calder. The BMW Art Car experience had a significant impact on Stella. Before the collaboration, Frank did not have a driver’s license; after, he was so passionate about motorsports and inspired by the racing community he started racing himself. Stella sought inspiration from his technical fascination of the racing coupe. The final result was a machine wrapped in a graph paper pattern, capturing and defining every curve and indentation.
