In the midst of an emergency “All Out For Rafah” rally at Sproul Plaza Tuesday afternoon, student workers established a “Union Village” at the “Free Palestine Encampment” — a first for the UC system.
Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members rallied on campus as part of a national protest for the Palestinian city of Rafah, where Israeli leaders approved a military operation the day before.
As the rally swelled over the course of two hours, members of UAW 4811 — the union representing nearly 50,000 UC academic workers — announced a “Union Village” area of the encampment, mirroring the “Alumni Village” section of tents on the other side of the Sproul steps.
