California condors were nearly extinct but thanks to the efforts of places like oregonzoo there are now more than 500 condors in the wild. The first condor to be hatched in a century in Oregon was Kun-Wac-Shun, also known as No. 340. His name means “Thunder and lightning” and the name was given to him by Chief Nelson Wallulutum of the Wasco tribe. He just turned 20 years old and conservationists are not just celebrating his birthday but the ongoing successful conservation of California condors.
