#USNA tour and showcase places around the yard that are not usually seen by the public. Right below the iconic tour location Memorial Hall lies a place many midshipmen travel through but only few spend quality time in: Smoke Hall.
Today, Smoke Hall is a place where all midshipmen can relax. However, in the early 1900s, only the first class (seniors) were allowed to be in this space, while many other brigade activities took place in Memorial Hall, directly above Smoke Hall. As time passed, activities like ballroom dancing and piano playing shifted from Memorial Hall to Smoke Hall. Today, Memorial Hall is truly a place of quiet reverence and Smoke Hall is a place for relaxation.
