Welcome to another #ScenicSunday where we go beyond the standard #USNA tour and showcase places around the yard that are not usually seen by the public. Bancroft is split into eight wings, which house all the midshipmen. Each wing is unique, and for this #ScenicSunday episode, we highlight Bancroft Hall’s 2nd Wing basement, which is home to the USNA armory and the @NavyRifle Team rifle range. Only a few midshipmen truly spend their time in this area, which is why it is on our list for #ScenicSunday. Have you ever wondered where midshipmen get their rifles for parades? Here lies the answer! When you first enter the basement, you will see the armory. At the beginning of each semester, the midshipmen go down by company to be issued a rifle or sword. Swords are reserved for specific midshipmen - usually the First Class (seniors) - who hold certain leadership positions that help the brigade run smoothly, such as the Brigade Commander.
