Welcome to a new series called Scenic Sundays where we go beyond the standard #USNA tour and showcase places around the yard that are not usually seen by the public. For today’s episode, we are showing the basement of the @usnamuseum , located in Preble Hall! Many incredible artifacts and displays can be seen throughout Preble Hall, such as interactive maps following the history of our Navy’s fleet and the Rogers Ship Model Collection. The first two floors are open to the public. However, the basement is where the Naval Academy’s Museum Curator of Ship Models Don Preul works, which is why it is limited to certain USNA personnel. He oversees the care of roughly 5,000 models in the collection, and his attention to detail is evident in the shop. One of the models featured includes a replica of USS Santee.
