Jimmy Graham and Mike Gesicki have very similar stories. In 2014, Jimmy Graham was franchise tagged as a tight end, even though he played most of his snaps as a wide receiver. The tight end franchise tag was $7 million — while the wide receiver franchise tag was $12 million… a $5 MILLION difference! Graham appealed to the NFL arbitrator but lost the case. Mike Gesicki is in a similar situation now. He was franchise tagged as a TE this year, although he played the vast majority of his snaps in the slot or at wide receiver. The difference for him would also be $5 million. This has created a decade long debate over tight end franchise tags and whether they should be getting more money or not. Do you think Graham and Gesicki should’ve been tagged as WR’s or TE’s?
