This #TraumaAwarenessMonth, meet the members of a hospital trauma care team. The professionals who make up a trauma care team are specially trained to treat the most critically injured patients. They deal with gunshot wounds, traumatic injuries from car crashes, burns, and other life-threatening injuries and illnesses. When a critically injured patient arrives in the emergency department, a trauma team stabilizes them. They work together to set up an airway, stop bleeding, take scans, start IVs, and more. The trauma team experts who deliver this lifesaving care include a trauma chief resident, anesthesiologists, attending physicians, emergency department technicians, nurses, residents, and x-ray technicians. Other surgical specialists may also work on trauma cases. They include cardiac surgeons, neurosurgeons, and orthopaedic surgeons.
