In this photograph and handmade frame, Hassan Hajjaj references his North African heritage and his love of fashion photography, hip-hop, and Pop Art to create layered images evoking the cultural, social, and political contrasts between Middle Eastern and Western culture. Here, Hajjaj has photographed Marc Hare, a London-based shoe designer who launched his own brand of unique and elegant footwear. He wears a tailored suit and shoes selected by the artist, the frame made of cans of coconut peanuts. Hajjaj regularly juxtaposes highly saturated, brightly-colored images of musicians, cultural icons and people he meets on the streets, with common brands of soda, food, and patterned textiles normally found in the markets of Marrakesh. Pictured: Hassan Hajjaj, Marc Hare, 2013, Metallic Lambda print on Dibond, handmade frame, and cans of coconut crunchy peanuts #hassanhajjaj #contemporaryart #photography #myrockstars
