Valérie Belin’s Painted Daisy series are digital double exposures, which combine a portrait of a woman in pearls and deep red lipstick with a layer of flowers—here, chrysanthemums—that are exposed atop the figure’s features. These neo-Baroque images create dualities of reality and illusion, realism and supernaturalism; the interplay of faces and forms mirroring the shifting, fractures nature of memory and identity today.
