In one half of her life, Riya Mahesh is Quiet Light, an experimental folk-pop songwriter and producer creating startlingly original songs; in the other, she’s a 22-year-old, third-year student on clinical rotations where her coworkers have no idea of her alter ego. “Sometimes I wake up and I feel like I’m playing a video game, and that’s my life,” she says. “It’s like, ‘What identity do I want to wear today?’” “My goal whenever I make music,” Mahesh says, “is that someone could just listen to an MP3 file of it, and they don’t know how I look; they don’t know anything about me.
