Several major U.S. airlines are suing the Transportation Department over its new "junk fees" rule, which requires airlines to show fees for checked bags, carry-on bags and reservation changes or cancellation fees. In 2023 alone, airlines raked in more than $5 billion in baggage fees. NewsNation Travel Editor Peter Greenberg notes that the one major airline not part of the suit is Southwest Airlines, the only one that doesn't charge passengers for checking their bags.
