✨ At Art Basel Miami Beach 2022, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s new installation “Pulse Topology” invites the public to become an integral part of the piece. “Pulse Topology” is an artwork composed of 3,000 glimmering lightbulbs suspended at different heights, creating an intimate landscape of crests and valleys. Forming a platform for self-representation, Lozano-Hemmer uses photoplethysmography technology to detect the pulse of each participant, which is converted into sound and light rhythms. Individual heartbeats then come together to create an immersive choral environment. Translating an interior force to an exterior form, Lozano-Hemmer makes tangible the otherwise invisible register of the heartbeat, which glows and then fades in the spirit of a memento mori ✨ #PulseTopology lozanohemmer superblue.art
