🎨 🚗 BMW Art Cars: 18 of 19 - Cao Fei, 2017. When Cao Fei was selected as the next Art Car artist, she was confronted with a new situation - she was unaccustomed to working with surfaces and had never actually created art with a brush. Therefore, Cao approached the project in her own way: observing, documenting, dissecting and bringing in a totally new digital component. As the narrative prelude to her physical Art Car, Cao shot a six-minute film, "Unmanned," with a monk as the protagonist. She then worked with experts to program a corresponding app that made the digital light art visible by way of augmented reality. As with much of her work, Cao merges tradition with modernism and invokes the ritual of the blessing of everyday objects with her AR work.
