The tradition of Walking the Hill began in 1907 when KU graduates processed from Fraser Hall to Robinson Gymnasium. As the university grew, a larger venue was eventually needed for Commencement — and in 1924, Memorial Stadium became the new destination for the walk. This past Sunday marked 100 years since students began processing into the stadium for the Commencement ceremony, and because of construction, the stadium looked similar to how it did in 1924. It was a beautiful day and a triumphant celebration, made more memorable by this echo of history. #KUGrads Alt text: Side-by-side images show Memorial Stadium in 1924 and 2024. Because of construction at the stadium, it currently looks similar to how it did in 1924, with only a field and the east stands.
