It’s a desert home, not just a desert house. Located in tumacacorinps this house is called a melhok ki. The indigenous people of this area of Arizona, the O’odham, made this home out of mesquite timber, ocotillo sticks, saguaro ribs, and mud. While it might look old, this particular house was built in 1997 by the present-day members of the Tohono O'odham Nation. The O’odham have lived in the Sonoran Desert since time immemorial, and they’ve become masters at thriving despite the harsh desert climate, thanks to their unique construction and survival techniques. Today, celebrate International Day of the World’s Indigenous People with us by learning more about Native Americans across the country and the social, cultural, economic, and political characteristics that make them unique. #NativeAmericans #IndigenousPeople #InternationalDayOfTheWorldsIndigenousPeople #Arizona #NationalHistoricalPark #HistoricPark #History #AmericanHistory #Indigenous 📸: nationalparkservice Image: A sma...
