Recently, President Biden signed a bill creating the National Park Service’s 425th site: the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument. Split between three sites in Chicago, Illinois, and Mississippi, the new national monument remembers the lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955 and the cascading effects on the nation. The memorial also memorializes the efforts of Emmett’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, to find justice for her son’s murder.
