This #NationalSpaceExplorationDay, take a second to marvel at some of the literal impacts space has had on our planet! Not CraterLakenps, though. #DidYouKnow that the lake wasn’t formed by the landing of a massive meteor thousands of years ago, but rather a volcanic eruption so huge it collapsed a mountain and formed the deepest lake in the United States! ➡️Swipe for a picture of a real crater! (one made from a meteor crashing into Earth from space) This one can be found near Winslow, Arizona at the sight of the Barringer or Meteor Crater. The massive dent is over half a mile wide and was formed around 50,000 years ago. Though the crater remains on private property, it was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1967! #Space #Crater #CraterLake #Oregon #Meteors #SpaceExploration #CraterLake #BarringerCrater #Arizona #NationalParks #Parks #Outdoors #Outside #Exploration 📸: NationalParkService and Wikicommons Image: A view of a lake with an island in the middle from the West Rim, ...
