#TodayInHistory Ida B. Wells was born in 1862 in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
An American journalist, activist, and school teacher, Wells was a foundational member of the U.S. civil rights and suffrage movements. She led anti-lynching campaigns and helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP.
Her long-time Chicago home 🏠, where she established the first black women’s suffrage club and fought against segregated schooling, is protected as the Ida B. Wells-Barnett House National Historic Landmark!
