Wishing DevilsPostpilenps a wickedly good 112th birthday today! The Devil went down to the Postpile and designated it as a National Monument in 1911! Just kidding, the National Park Service protects the symmetrical 60-foot basalt columns that make up the monument’s most famous rock formation. While humans have been present in the area for thousands of years, the geography of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the deep snow that often cushions the park site has helped to preserve the monument and its history. This year, the road to Devils Postpile is not expected to open until July 21st! #DevilsPostpile #Parks #NationalParks #California #SierraNevada #Outdoors #Outside #Wildlife #Nature #Adventure #Geology 📸: NationalParkService and Wikicommons Image: The straight rock formations of Devils Postpile are covered with snow as a snow shower walks by and creates tracks in the snow.
