National park sites preserve the stories of our nation’s history. manzanarnps is a place that is remembered for being one of the ten Relocation Sites for Japanese Americans during WWII. It’s recorded that about two-thirds of all those people were American citizens by birth, and the remainder were born in Japan and came to the U.S., where they were denied citizenship. The removal of all Japanese Americans from the West Coast was based on widespread distrust of their loyalty after Pearl Harbor. Yet, no Japanese Americans were charged with espionage. Eventually, as the war turned in favor of the U.S., the restrictions were lifted, and the people who had lived there for over three-and-a-half years were allowed to leave the sites.
