Bon Jovi once sang, “I'm riding somewhere south of Heaven; I'm heading back to Santa Fe.” While we can't confirm he was talking about the Santa Fe National Historic Trail, we like to think he was. 😜 The Santa Fe National Historic Trail was a bustling commercial highway of the 1800s, connecting Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico. This trail saw it all: military campaigns, gold rushes, and traveling missionaries! But perhaps the most significant event along the trail was the Mexican-American War, which broke out in 1846. A few months after the war, America’s Army of the West followed the path westward to successfully invade Mexico. After the war ended in 1848, the Santa Fe Trail became a national road connecting the more settled parts of the United States to the new southwest territories. #SantaFeNationalHistoricTrail #NationalParkService #NewMexico #Colorado #Kansas #Missouri #Oklahoma #Trail #West #Music #Musician #America #AmericanDream #AmericanWest #Cows #Mexico #War 📸: nation...
