Talk about breaking the glass ceiling, #DoYouKnow the story of the first-ever female Native American National Park Superintendent? Introducing Ellen Hope Hays, a Native Alaskan of the Tlingít tribe in Sitka. Her career got a humble start at the Sitka National Historical Park in 1967 as a clerk and a typist. She quickly rose through the ranks and trained to be a park ranger at grandcanyonnps so she could return to Sitka as a park ranger. She served there for two years until she was appointed as the Sitka National Historical Park superintendent in 1974. In all, she was the third woman ever to become the superintendent of a national park and the first Native American. Ellen was more than just a superintendent. She was a true inspiration to her community. She left an incredible legacy of embracing and teaching Alaska Native heritage at the park site. #NativeAlaskan #TlingitAndHaida #Sitka #Alaska #SitkaAlaska #NationalParks #HistoricSite #ParkRanger #GrandCanyon #GlassCeiling #Herit...
