When you think of a #NationalParkRanger, what do you think of first? Is it the wide-brimmed hat? The green pants? The boots they wear? As iconic as the NPS #ranger uniform is, in its long history, it did not make everyone who wore it smile. Early female ranger outfits were unorganized and often impractical. Some women were forced to wear skirts while doing outdoor work, while others were given uniforms too large for them due to the fact that they were made for men. In almost every case, the uniform singled women out as different from their male counterparts, who often did the same jobs. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the #NationalParkService began to address this problem.
