Congratulations to Ranger Shelton Johnson who received the 2022 American Park Experience Award presented by the nationalparktrust! The award is given annually to those who have “made extraordinary efforts to enhance the awareness and appreciation of our nation’s public, lands, and waters”. Throughout his 30 years of service at Yosemite National Park, Shelton has connected many hearts, minds, and spirits to the park and the natural world. Currently serving as community engagement specialist, Shelton’s efforts continue to ensure that all people, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, exercise their right to enjoy their public lands and feel connected to our national parks. Johnson is a celebrated storyteller who retells and elevates the history of Buffalo Soldiers, the 24th Infantry Regiment and the 9th Cavalry Regiment, who served as some of Yosemite’s first park rangers.
