President Joe Biden on Thursday announced that his administration was taking a major step towards rescheduling marijuana, which would reclassify cannabis and remove it from a category in which it has been treated as more dangerous than fentanyl and meth. As a result, marijuana will be rescheduled from Schedule I–a severe classification that includes drugs like heroin–to Schedule III, which would finally acknowledge the drug’s benefits at the federal level. Once made official, which could take a few months up to a year, the reclassification of cannabis will allow federal scientists to research and study the potential medical benefits of cannabis. It would also eliminate major tax burdens for businesses in states where the drug is legal and help crack down on black market cannabis sales. It will not, however, make marijuana legal at the federal level. #Virginia #Marijuana #Legalizeit #PoliticalNews #USPolitics #USNews #Biden
