This is really hitting home for me, not only because it took place in my hometown. Each of us have a responsibility to not only treat others with respect and kindness (especially those who are disenfranchised or disadvantaged). But we ALSO must stand up for others and not stand by when others are being bullied or mistreated (or tortured in this case). It’s not about doing so on social media. “Cancelling” people will only go so far. The real question is how much are you standing up for orhers in your community, on the schoolyard, in the street?  This broken hearted mama’s plea is this: Please please please don’t just talk to your kids about not being a bystander but MODEL IT for them.
