Train lovers rejoice.
Private rail company Brightline broke ground today on their high-speed track connecting Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Construction is set to be complete by 2028, with the line servicing 11 million one-way passengers annually, or roughly 30,000 per day.
It's the latest major project for Brightline, which expanded its Florida line from Miami to Orlando last September.
Unlike the Miami-Orlando line (which reaches speeds of 125mph), the LA-Las Vegas line is being called the first true high-speed rail line in the US, with top speeds of 186 mph (roughly the same as Japan's bullet trains).
The 218 miles-long track will cut the trip from LA to Vegas down from four hours to two, and include a stop in Victor Valley along the way.
Brightline received $6.5 billion in funding from the federal government as part of the $12 billion project.
