Had a fun chat today with spitta_andretti and jermainedupri about their upcoming project For Motivational Use Only. We spoke about why JD thinks Atlanta needs more mainstream stars, Spitta’s longevity on the indie circuit, JD almost signing 2 Chainz and more.
Sidebar: When I was a sophomore at Howard in ‘08, I interviewed Spitta for
HipHopGame.com. We grew close and he used to call me while I was in class wanting to talk about music shit. I was so new to this game and thought it was crazy that Spitta, who at the time was a budding star fresh off his Young Money run wanted to chat with me. That was 15 years ago and the brother is one of rap’s prolific indie kings. JD? He’s just an all-around 🐐 on the production side. While people are quick to rattle off his R&B credits (Usher, Mariah, etc), his hip-hop triumphs are just as stellar (“Money Ain’t a Thang, Welcome to Atlanta,” etc). We still need that Verzuz with Puff!
