May long weekend is the unofficial start of gardening season in Calgary and like everyone else, we’re starting to beautify popular locations around the city; however, to be even more water wise this year, we’re being more conscious of where, what and how much we’re planting. 🌼 We’re reducing our summer hanging baskets around downtown. The area will still be colorful and inviting for Calgarians and visitors, however we will also save approximately 30,000L of water. 🏵️ For our seasonal patio program on 4th Street, Bridgeland, 17th Ave S.W., Beltline, Kensington and Inglewood, we’re reducing the number of planters by one third as well as using more drought tolerant plants. 🌷 Across our flower beds in locations like Prince’s Island Park and other regional parks in Calgary, we’ll be planting 20 per cent fewer flowers, yet still ensuring vibrancy and beauty in all the flower beds.
