Best of the Decade #7: Head Coach Dan Phelps . . Unlike the Men’s NCAA team, the MD1 team did not have immediate success on the ice. The first season for the team in 2007-08 saw a record of 17-21, four games below .500. Dan Phelps came aboard for the Bulldogs the second season and posted a 19-18 record behind the bench. . . In only his second season behind the bench, he lead the Bulldogs to their first thirty win season in 2009-10 and finished the season 17th in the country. . . Coach Phelps went on to lead his team to at least thirty wins in all but one of his years behind the bench and the Bulldogs would finish top 20 in the nation every season under his guidance. . . With Phelps at the helm, the Bulldogs joined the GLCHL in 2010 and placed first in three of the next four seasons. The 2010-11 season would be enough for Coach Phelps to be awarded the ACHA D1 Coach of the Year award.
