The strangest story of 2024 just dropped. An investigation by The Guardian found that Steven Reece Lewis, the CEO of now-shuttered crypto fund Hyperverse, never actually existed. Lewis was introduced in 2021 to fanfare that featured welcome videos by Chuck Norris, Lance Bass, and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. He came with a résumé that included time at Goldman Sachs, a web development company he sold to Adobe, and an education covering the University of Leeds and University of Cambridge. Following the fund's collapse (which racked up consumer losses of $1.3 billion) and rumors that Lewis wasn't even a real person, The Guardian looked into his background. Reaching out to Goldman, Adobe, both universities, the UK companies register, and US SEC, The Guardian was left with no record of Lewis outside of an account on X that hadn't posted since June 2022. As for the celebrity videos, they concluded these were Cameos someone had paid for in advance. #business #businessnews ...
