Today we #honor the lives and sacrifice of two of our own, MSgt John Chapman and SrA Jason Cunningham, who were #KIA in 2002 while deployed to #Afghanistan. During the Battle of Takur Ghar, Chapman's helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, causing Navy SEAL Neil Roberts to fall out. After making an emergency landing Chapman volunteered to rescue Roberts from an enemy stronghold where he engaged the enemy from close range until he succumbed to multiple wounds. His engagement enabled his team to move to cover and break enemy contact, therefore, saving the lives of his team. On that same day, SrA Cunningham's team was sent to rescue 2 service members, which just happened to be Chapman and his partner, but his helicopter was forced to crash-land due to a small arms fire and a rocket-propelled grenade.
