After 13 years, Cara Consuegra declared she would be stepping down as Charlotte women's basketball head coach on April 17. She has accepted a position in the same role at Marquette University, where Consuegra was assistant coach from 2004-11. Consuegra held a 225-169 win-loss record with the 49ers and became Charlotte's all-time wins leader after securing her 176th win in 2021. In the 2021-22 season, Consuegra led the 49ers to a 22-10 overall record a took a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2008-09 season and third in program history. Before joining the 49ers, Consuegra was an assistant at Marquette for seven seasons, where she guided the Golden Eagles to 145 wins, two NCAA tournament appearances and a WNIT Championship in 2008.
