“I grew up in an era where casual homophobia at school was the norm. Society has come a long way. There’s still a way to go but it is getting better.”
Sergeant Talon Fullarton, from the Public Order Response Team, is one of over 450 LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officers (LLO) at Victoria Police.
Now seven years in the force with stints at Collingwood and Shepparton Police Stations, one of Talon’s favourite things about the job is the variety it brings each day.
“I’ve travelled the state helping members of different communities and have seen and done things I never got to do in an office job,” says Talon.
As a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, Talon’s found Victoria Police to be a great place to work and says he will continue to work on breaking down barriers with LGBTIQ+ community members and help shift perceptions of Victoria Police to reflect where the organisation is at now.
