Happy Saturday! DYK it National Eye Care Month. Have I told you that Sam has a prosthetic eye? It’s true! She was born with micropthalmia, it means one of her eyes 👀 is too small to work. If she didn’t wear a prosthesis, her face would kind of sink in making it hard to wear glasses, etc. You may be wondering how it is for a person with Ds to have a #glasseye Good question, I’m glad you asked. She started the process when she was 3 months old. It did not start off well! With a lot of patience and good medical care, we all got used to it. She is now a champ! 👁️ She gets a new eye every couple of years and they are made by an ocularist. They are true artists! If you look closely, you can see the brush field spots. I think that’s my favorite part of her eyes. With her good eye, she can see about 3 feet clearly without her glasses. Most people don’t realize what a challenge her vision can be for her. #prostheticeye #micropthalmia #downsyndrome #blueeyes
