#Guardianship. Well that was heart wrenching. Jamie, Samantha and I just had her virtual court hearing to be her legal guardians. I’m not a lawyer but it means we will continue to make her personal, financial and medical decisions even after she turns 18 (which is Sunday, October 17! 🎂). Jamie and I burst into tears. All 18 years of challenges came flooding back. I always get a little emotional at her IEPs, but this was different. It hit me in the stomach. It was f’ing hard to hear more LABELS placed on her. This time it was indigent and incapacitated. I know they are legal terms but they just don’t come anywhere close to describing this beautiful, smart, funny, athletic young woman. Happy (almost) birthday Samantha! We are grateful to be your parents and will continue to spread the message of inclusion!
